It's not always better to receive a higher commission

A frequent mistake made by the new affiliates is that if they see two similar affiliate programs, they immediately choose the one that offers a higher commission. They think that because it offers a higher commission that affiliate program is better, but they're wrong.

The commission is not the most important aspect of an affiliate program; sometimes the commission can be useless if the affiliate program is poorly made.

If you are a beginner you should take a look at the prices charged by the merchants on their products. Usually they use a higher price to recover the extra money offered in a commission.

When the customer notices high prices he will leave that merchant and choose a merchant that has lower prices. He won't care that you offer a high commission if you charge him so much for your products.

Another thing you must observe is the merchants that offer a higher commission but their sites have large traffic leaks: banner ads, adsense ads, and even a toll free phone. This type of site will offer you nothing but the commission.

If you have a website without traffic leaks, and if your products are not too expensive, people will buy from you even if you don't offer them a very high commission.
