Directories are another way of finding different sites, they somewhat resemble the search engines, but there also is a difference between them. Directories won’t accept low quality pages like the search engines do, because they care about quality and because humans review the pages before inserting them into the directories. Since the directories insert sites not pages, it is required to adjust your first page to meet the directory’s requirements.

Choosing the right directories:
Once you have adjusted your page it is time to select the directories. But which ones are good? Yahoo, Looksmart and DMOZ are the best and each of them have their own article so we suggest you read that first. These are the directories that will bring you the most traffic, but there are also other directories that you can submit to if you like.

When you submit you should find the category and/or the subcategory that suits your site. To find these, you can search for the keyword that suits your site or you can browse through the directories. Try to be as accurate as possible when doing the search because you might not receive the proper response otherwise. If your site is about American football write Sports-American Sports-Football instead of Sports-American Sports (just an example). Also if you don’t select the right category you might get rejected. If you don’t get rejected but your site is in the wrong category, you will definitely lose some traffic.
