What is a pay per click search engine?
A pay per click search engine allows the site owner to bid on keywords and through this to determine his sites ranking in that particular search engine. It means you will bid how much you are willing to pay for visitors that visit your site after a search result, if the search has been made with keywords related to your site. The bid will grow if the keyword is used more often, but the keyword must be relevant to your site. With this system you will pay for visitors instead of optimizing different aspects of your site.
There are some advantages with this system:
You will pay for guaranteed visits since you have to pay only when someone clicks your listings. Most of the times the clicks are very cheap: 1 cent or 2 cents. Some sites like Overture have the minimum bid of $.05. Some keywords cost much more but still the pay pr click system is one of the most profitable, because it will bring you lots f traffic and implicit money.
Use relevant terms which are directly linked to your website. If you use terms that are not directed to your site maybe you will attract visitors, but they won’t be interested in what you sell, because they expected to see what the keyword described. They will not buy, but they will use clicks, meaning they will cost you money and of course you don’t want that.
Bid on the low-cost relevant terms. The more a keyword is used in searching, the more it will cost. Different people will bid for popular terms and the one who pays the most will be able to use them. They are worth paying, but the low-costs relevant terms are also worth it. Maybe they will have an extra word included, but if you see the big picture you will realize that it is profitable. You don’t have to pay so much money, the visits will be fewer, but when you do this on different sites it will cost you much less.
Some PPC have a $.05 minimum bid, which doesn’t make such a good idea to bid on all relevant terms. In the past one could afford to do so, but now it is best if one chooses the highly targeted words because they will bring the traffic and the money.
You can link the essential page of your site to most of the PPC search engines, meaning that the visitors will be taken directly to the page they look for. This makes them buy more often then if they would have been sent to other pages of your site.
Try to include the search term in the description and in the title, because that attracts the visitors more often. The description should be also short but should be descriptive. The people read the description and they know what to expect when they visit the site. If the description describes the site very well, most of the times the people will visit your site with the intention of buying.
It is best if your site would be located on a late position. Most of the times this is every site owner’s nightmare, but in this situation it would bring you more profit. By being in a late position, and having visitors, it means that they are not satisfied with what they saw on the first positions. These are the people that most often will buy something from your site.
If you use less popular words it is better if you would bid for a top position because you will be listed on partner sites. Yahoo and MSN are just some of Overture’s partners and you can realize that being displayed on their search is something useful for your site.
Try to buy specific key phrases because if the key phrase contains too much words most of the times a visitor will not buy. You won’t lose money if you use specific key phrases.
