The Terminology of the Search Marketing
In what follows we are presenting the terminology of the search marketing, essential information for both the beginners and the experienced in the marketing domain:
The Alt Tags: allow the insertion of a text that is viewable through a mouse over operation. It resembles a web page being seen from a web browser. <img src="image.jpg" alt="Text about image">
The Algorithm: is a mathematical formula which helps the search engines find different pages. The Keyword Relevancy, Site Popularity, Meta Tags, Indexable content, Page Age, Alt Tags, are some of the factors that a search engine algorithm looks for.
The CPC: means the Cost per Click, and it represents the cost or cost-equivalent paid per click-through.
The CPM: represents the cost per thousand impressions and it is often used when purchasing banner ads.
The Directory: contains lists of web sites, most of the times in alphabetical orders
The Doorway Pages: are used to push traffic to a Primary Domain or Traffic Target, and to rank certain keywords. The doorway pages are also known as promo, gateway, and hallway pages.
Indexed: represents a listed URL in a search engine, and also the readable part of an HTML page that is scored by the Algorithm and caught by the spider.
Indexable: represents the readable pat of the HTML which the engine spider reads.
The Keyword Density: is the amount of times a keyword is used in a page
The Keyword Pyramid: helps keyword integration and density factors. It is based on a mathematical formula.
The Keywords: are the phrases or the words that help perform a search. They can also represent the important and relevant elements from a text.
The Link Popularity: is the number of the relevant to your site incoming and outgoing links.
The META Tags: describe the context of the text and are presented in the top of an HTML page. They include the Title, Description, Keywords, Refresh, and others.
The Page Age: represents the time since the search engines have indexed a page.
Patience: What is the most important in the search marketing.
Portal: is the user's start page to the Internet and it contains the most basic services and features. Vertical Portal, or Vortal represents the Niche Portal.
The Primary Domains: it's the home page to the Doorway Pages and Promo Domains
The Promo Domains: collect and filter hits to primary traffic targets, but they also build up relevancy for primary domains. The Promo Domains are individual websites and they are also known as doorway domains, dummy domains, and feeder sites
The Ranking: represents the position of a site in the search engines. The rankings are represented by the page number and by the position.
The Reciprocal Link: represents two sites that are linked to each other.
The Relevancy: represents how closely the search has matched the score of a web site result. The Algorithm analyzes and scores several factors (Keyword Density, Link Popularity, and Page Age) to rank the results.
The Robots.txt file: is placed in the roots directory of the domain. It is the first thing that catches the attention of the searching spider. Inside the file can be placed a list of directories which are to be ignored by the search engine.
The SEO (Search Engine Optimization): a way to use special elements which draws the attention of higher search engines.
The Spamdexing: is when you dominate the search engines with some keywords. By using that keywords in searches your page will be displayed the first.
The Spider: is a software that transforms a sites indexable content through a series of analysis and algorithms into index content.
The Sub Domain: is the prefix to a domain name: sub-domain.domain-name.com, which is often used for promotional domains. It is better to host the Sub Domains on different IP's because they will be more efficient this way.
The Traffic Target: is the traffic you want your site to reach.
